Great Gibbon Quote

Courtesy of Travelers Diagram:

"If all the barbarian conquerors had been annihilated in the same hour, their total destruction would not have restored the empire of the West: and if Rome still survived, she survived the loss of freedom, of virtue, and of honour."

–Edward Gibbon, Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire, Chapter 35

Less short answer: I'm too busy right now to do a post, but I am deeply uncomfortable with the idea that the burden of proof lies more with people opposed to killing hundreds of thousands, if not millions of Iraqis, and spending billions of dollars, than with people that think a war is obviously a good idea.
