Not very attractive on a cloudy day

I had my doubts about The Gates on a bright sunny day. They look worse, and the color seems rather ugly, on a cloudy, snowy day.

I dunno -- don't look at the close ones on the left, but instead at the further ones in the right of the shot, like tongues of flame in a grey landscape when glimpsed through distant trees.

or maybe February is just getting me down, and rays of color seem to hold out hope of better days...
