The people on Mitchum's PR team are idiots. This morning I heard the news of the London attacks when I woke up. While riding the subway to Soho tonight, I saw this:
One would think someone would have thought of the Madrid attacks, and what happened to the stupid MTA ad censors that have previously prevented such things as safe sex ads on the subway? I would think the suburban guys that are at the top would find this... problematic.
Well, that ad has been running for weeks. It's pretty innocuous under normal circumstances. Will they pull it down early, the same way the Spider Man trailer with the World Trade Center got pulled from theaters after the WTC was destroyed? I guess we'll see...
Oops.
You wrote "Madrid," didn't you?
Still, I can only imagine that ad being construed as offensive if seen during the immediate aftermath of a subway emergency related tragedy.
I think it's more a matter of the PR people being too insular to think about events in another country, and assuming NYers wouldn't either. Do they think Europeans never ride our subways either?
You are too sensitive.
The ad reads If you are pretty sure you can *perform necessary action* in case of *an emergency* then you are *the kind of person we want our brand to represent*
Get off your high horse.
PS what is mitchum?
Shouldn't you know what Mitchum is before bitching on my blog?
The ads are coming down:
